Southside Community Connections

Founded in 1984 by a group of dedicated, local citizens, Southside Community Connections (SCC) formerly Southside Senior Services, Inc. has served the needs of adults in Southern Tuolumne County for more than 30 years. The SCC mission is to provide health, recreation, social interaction, and lifelong learning experiences in a multigenerational setting to benefit active adults. Revenue is derived entirely from generous donations by community members and through grants and other fundraising activities. It receives no funding from federal, state or county sources.

Programs Available:

The Little House (TLH): The Little House is a community gathering place where we provide information about social services available in our county, congregate lunches, classes and lectures, health and fitness programs, and special events. There are classes every day, including yoga, chair yoga, balance and core, needleworks, line dancing, games, and more. Call A Day Program - They provide safety check calls.

Lunch Program - Thursdays @ 11:45 - 12:30 p.m. Call 209-962-7303 to make a reservation one week ahead. There is a suggested contribution of $4.50 per meal for 60+ and $5.50 for under 60. No senior will be denied a meal because of their inability to contribute.

Wheels: In 2012, SCC initiated the Wheels program to provide transportation via volunteers to clients who cannot drive due to age, illness, or access to a vehicle. This program provides rides to businesses within Groveland and Big Oak Flat for people who have no drivers in their household. Wheels provides rides to the medical clinic, physical therapy, post office, market, mailboxes, bank, etc. in Groveland. Wheels drivers also take residents to The Little House for programs, reducing their isolation and promoting social interaction and connectedness. Wheels can also take riders to Sonora, but only for medical appointments. Please call (209) 962-6906 for more information.

WAVE (Wheels & Village Express): In 2021, with the help of a 5310 Cal Grant for enhanced mobility for seniors and disabled residents, SCC launched the WAVE program, an extension of the Wheels program. Although we give seniors and disabled residents priority, there are no limitations on who can ride the bus. This program offers trips, Monday through Friday, to larger urban areas such as Sonora and Modesto for specialty medical providers, diagnostic services, shopping, DMV, Social Security, VA clinic, cultural opportunities, etc.. We are able to provide rides via a small, comfortable bus that seats up to eight passengers, including two in wheelchairs with a wheelchair lift. Village on the Hill (VOH): In 2015, SCC implemented the Village on the Hill service for our senior community. Volunteers provide services such as simple household tasks including running errands, shopping, changing light bulbs and smoke alarm batteries, watering plants, transporting trash, climbing ladders, dump runs, and more. Volunteers also make daily safety phone calls, take walks around the neighborhood, and provide friendly visits. These services, provided by volunteers, allow seniors to remain safely in their homes much longer than they would without this assistance. Please call (209) 962-6906 for more information.
